“Behold, bless ye the LORD, all ye servants of the LORD, which by night stand in the house of the LORD. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD. The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion.” Psalm 134 (KJV)
Lets think about our worship of God. Normally, worship is a reverent event. We bow before his throne. We kneel at his feet. We sing praises to his name. We pay close attention to his Word. All such reverence is good at the appropriate time. Yet, the Psalmist encourages an earnest expression of our worship . . . reverence with a twist.
To think that a servant could “bless” his master is almost preposterous. The master is so high and lifted up. His glory fills all the earth, and we are expected to bless him? Yes! Yes! Yes!
Bless the Lord with lifted hands. What a concept! The idea seems to be an exuberant expression of praise. This is more than a simple phrase of blessing. No passing fancy here. Not a morning mantra as we rush to begin a daily schedule. This is a meaningful worship event . . . a time that is significant to the worshipper. Something that happens in the sanctuary . . . and you are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Bless God from the innermost recesses of the sanctuary, and the Creator of all the universe will bless you from his throne.
Dear Father, we bless you today for your marvelous works. Remind us that we are your sanctuary. Enable us to continually live as sacrifices of worship to your glory. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today and bless God from your sanctuary,
