Worship the Creator

“In the
beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (KJV)

Consider
this for a moment. He didn’t just create things. He created in great detail and
beauty. Think about the hummingbird, for example. They are so beautiful in
their multi-colors and so tiny. They only hesitate long enough to drink the
provided nectar never stopping their wing action. Then they zip off to another
zone somewhere. The males are the real characters of the hummingbird world.
They challenge anything that threatens their territory, no matter how large.

This tiny
fowl is an amazing creature. It has a tiny heart, which beats ten times faster
than the human heart. Hummingbird speeds are faster than most of us drive and
they can fly backwards. In addition, hummingbirds can fly for hundreds of miles
without a rest stop. They are a joy to watch and they may be the bravest
creatures on the planet. Not many creatures would angrily challenge another
creature that is a thousand times its size.

Protecting
its turf, eh? I think it might be ambition. Perhaps the hummer is trying to
assess the mystery of the larger creature. Perhaps it wants to understand its
world and the creatures in it. Whatever the hummer’s real intent, I’ll never
know. But I do know about us humans. We hurl ourselves at God hoping to
comprehend more about him and his plan for us. Each worship service, we
anticipate seeing him if only in a haze. Daily, we try to get a glimpse of him,
hear him, and feel his presence as we live our lives in obedience to him. Like
the hummingbird, we protect our turf by learning more about the one who created
all things.

Dear
Father, thank you for your creation. Empower us with faith and curiosity.
Enable us to share your message in hope. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong
and courageous today worshipping the Creator,
