“O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my every thought when far away. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. You both precede and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to know!” Psalm 139:1-6 (NLT)
None of us like to be under examination. And we certainly do not want anyone to know everything about us. Yet, our all-knowing God sees the motivations of our hearts and everything else about us . . . even our most private secrets. “Such knowledge is . . . too great for me to know!”
The Psalmist emphasizes an important principle. At all times, God considers his children so precious that He takes note of wherever they are and whatever they are doing. God takes note of what we think, how we consider our options, and when we analyze all the issues of our lives. He is totally familiar with all our habits, desires and plans. And our words are clear to him, even before we speak them. “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me . . . to know!”
The skeptics, agnostics, and atheists would tempt us to not believe in this omniscient God, but He loves us too much for us to deny him. It is possible to deceive the whole world, but we can not deceive God. Our lives are being recorded in his book of accounts. And some day, every eye will look upon him; every knee will bow before him; and every mouth will confess that He is Lord.
The marvelous point is that despite his knowledge of us, God still loves us — gives grace to those whom seek him — and is patient with those who reject him. What an awesome God!
Dear Father, thank you for your loving consideration of us all. Empower us with saving faith in your Son, Jesus Christ. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today in the knowledge of the Lord,
