“The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.” (Psalm 50:1-6 KJV)
The Almighty God who is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings has pleaded 24/7/365 with all of earth’s inhabitants since the beginning. His grace has prevailed from then and is continuous now. From his holy mountain, He has allowed his glorious perfection to be seen by anyone who is searching for him.
Soon, however, God will return. And his coming will be thunderous. Skeptical intellectuals and arrogant scientists will no longer be able to deny his existence. Yet, their realization of truth will come too late, because with his undeniable evidence will come righteous judgment. Such a tragedy! Oh, how our hearts do break for all those who reject God’s salvation plan!
And for his children — those who have accepted his grace — who have believed in his son, Jesus Christ, God will shout, “My saints, gather together around me. Come to me you who have accepted my sacrifice and covenant.”
And his righteousness will be evident for all to see. No one will be confused. No one will be able to justly declare, “It’s not fair!” Every eye will see him. Every knee will bow before him. Every mouth will confess, “You are Lord!” For God is the Judge of Judges.
Note that Asaph the Psalmist, has noted that we should “Selah.” This term is more than a mere musical pause. It indicates that we should carefully consider the One who is the final judge. We should remind ourselves of his righteous judgment that awaits us all.
The Apostle Peter knew how important this is and ask us, “what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, . . .?” (2Peter 3:11b KJV).
Dear Father, thank you for your grace. Thank you for Christ our righteousness! Empower us to so live that we may greet your return with joy and victory. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
