“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 29:29 (NIV)
What if we could understand the purpose behind everything that happens to us. If we could grasp the nuances of those unusual occurrences and events that are the ebb and flow of life, Paul’s theology of everything working together for good would be clear. But in our 21st century life, it is futile to dwell on such an inquiry. “As it is written, the just shall live by faith” (Rom. 1:17).
We need to dwell on those principles by which he guides us and obey those directions he gives and confirms. No one said this was easy. Sometimes it is frightening. Most of the time it depends upon our conscious ability to identify his voice in our lives.
Dear Father, thank you for giving us the Word and the Spirit. Thank you for working all things for our good despite our understanding. Forgive us for not listening more closely. Enable us to be more sensitive to your voice. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
