“The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.” Psalm 19:1-4 (NRS)
Look out your window or door, do you not “see” or “hear” a message from God? Survey the natural world around you. Really look at the scenery with a new perspective. What is God proclaiming to you?
Now, I assume that everyone who reads these words believes in God. Of course, I am not naïve! I know that every reader may not be a believer in God. So, as contradictory as that may sound, let us consider some preconceived notions. If you believe in the theory of evolution, then it is unlikely that you will see or hear any sort of message in the physical world around you. If you believe that everything physical and material is innately evil, then you will of course not pay attention any “signals” this physical world may send your way. In other words, preconceived notions either divert our attention from or prepare us for receiving any divine message deposited in the world around us.
Since I believe the Bible and its message, I believe that every day is full of Divine communication. Every night is bursting with knowledge and understanding! Oh, we know that these elements do not “speak” with an audible voice, but they are proclaiming the message from God for the entire world to hear. The issue is not about messages. The issue is about whether or not we are listening. And do not deceive yourself, wherever you are in this world, God is calling to you whether you are listening or not . . . whether you believe or not.
Consider the lilies of the field . . . how beautiful they are! Such vivid shades and varieties of colors! What does that tell you about God? Consider the birds of the air . . . how beautiful they sing! It is as if they have no cares at all. Rain or shine the birds sing! What does that tell you about God? The cycles of days, weeks, months, years, and seasons continue uninterrupted since they were created by God’s hands. What does that tell you about God? Around this globe, all people groups experience trouble, joy, sunshine, rain, poverty, riches, disasters, and blessings. What does that tell you about God?
Dear Father and our God, thank you for the natural universe and your message in it. Empower us to perceive, see and hear with renewed understanding. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today by what you hear God saying to you,
