“ . . . Enoch walked with God . . .” Genesis 5:22 & 24
Each day they made this journey together. Three times around the track completed a mile. They usually did nine. At first, the boy really didn’t want to walk but he loved his father, who liked to walk. The boy just wanted to be with him. Being with his father calmed him down and gave him strength somehow. Sometimes they talked. Sometimes they just walked silently along hand in hand listening to the morning sounds. The boy had noticed that his day always went better after this walk. The few times he had missed showed him that he needed this walk, so now it had become a daily, joyous habit.
When Enoch was born, Yared probably never considered the impact his son would have upon their society. Yet, he obviously taught Enoch the benefit of walking. The lessons surely included the importance of choosing a walking partner. As any responsible father would, Yared taught Enoch to carefully choose who it would be. Yared knew that his son’s walking partner could influence him for good or bad.
Obviously, Enoch learned the lessons well. We are told that he left the witness that “he pleased God” (Hebrews 11:5). Each day God invites us to walk with him. Each day we should take his hand and walk. By doing so, we will influence our generation.
O, Holy Father, thank you for the privilege of a personal relationship with you. Forgive me for not walking close to you. O Lord, create in me a hunger and thirst for your fellowship. Grant that my relationship with you will affect those around me. I pray this in Jesus’ name. AMEN
Let us praise God for his walk with us and live in a closer walk with him,
Pastor Smith
