Walking

“As you have
therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up
in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it
with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2:6-7 NKJ)
My doctor suggested
that I start walking a few minutes at least three days a week. She said. “I am not concerned about weight loss, but being healthy. And if you will walk
for 10 to 30 minutes three days a week, you will be healthy.”
So, Bobbie and I
decided to walk early in the morning. After our first day, we were so proud of
ourselves for having completed a ten minute walk. But as the days and walks
continued, we discovered that commitment is required. Set our clock, get out of
bed, pass up the coffee cup, go out the door and walk.
In addition, we are
often tempted to stop walking when the energy sags, rather than completing our
walking regimen. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, we want to make excuses
and stay inside. It is also easy to get distracted and stop along the way, so we
must maintain our focus and persevere.
We remind ourselves of the goal . . . good health.
This is the great
Apostle’s concern: a healthy Christian. A person who has received Christ and is
currently walking in Christ. Look how Paul expresses this walk. Its source and
strength is Christ. It is established in the faith of Christ. It flourishes (abounding)
in Christ, grateful for his benefits.
Paul writes that we
are complete in Christ and fully healthy as we maintain our life in him (v.
10). My goal is to be healthy in soul, spirit and body. This is why I am
walking . . . with Bobbie and with Christ.
Dear Father, thank
you for letting us walk with you. Empower us with commitment and gratitude. I
pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Walk with Christ
