Unconditional Trust

“I cry to you, O God, but you don’t answer me. I stand before you, and you don’t bother to look. You have become cruel toward me. You persecute me with your great power. You throw me into the whirlwind and destroy me in the storm. And I know that you are sending me to my death– the destination of all who live.” Job 30:20-23 (NLT)

The challenge of trust. When our friends seem to ignore us, we trust that they are only very busy. When we talk with the surgeon and he doesn’t bother to look at us, we trust that he heard and will respond later. When husbands don’t talk with wives, the women think they are being persecuted with silence. They trust that he will get over it . . . or not.

Sometimes our lives resemble a whirlwind. We stress ourselves to the point of thinking, “It’s gonna kill me.” Then we look around for someone to blame. And like Job, we think it’s God’s fault. We pray but he doesn’t respond. We can’t seem to command an audience with him. He’s got the power and we have the struggle. Then, with childish pouting, we shout at him, “You’re killing me here.”

In our busy lives, it is a challenge to simply trust God. In his realm, little things are really big issues. Our growth, spiritual maturity, attitude, and service are important to him. Trust is his instrument that moves us to the next level – out of ordinary into marvelous. Most of us want to develop and contribute something important to the community. The greatest contribution we can make, however, may be an example of trusting God. Remember, Enoch! By his faith and trust, he pleased God and his world was affected by his life.

It’s okay to tell God how you feel about his challenges in your life. But when you have finished, be sure to remind him that no matter what, you trust him and want his will to be done.

Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Sometimes we feel ignored and abandoned. We know that you are concerned about us and that you neither leave us nor forsake us. Empower us to trust you unconditionally. In the name of Jesus, I pray. AMEN

Be encouraged today with unconditional trust in God,
