Trusting the Shepherd

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm
23:1 KJV)

As I start my day, I wonder what is going
to happen today. Will it be a beautiful day, rain, snow, and cold, sunny?  I suppose we all have similar thoughts. Then
I look at the weather report, decide what I will wear and I dress
accordingly.

As I think
about this day, I wonder how many others worry about the future and what is
going to happen. We can get so caught up in worries about the future that we
miss the great and wonderful joys of today.

The Bible
teaches me to not worry about tomorrow. I can neither change what has happened
in the past nor what will happen in the future. I can only live from this
present to the next present. How frightening it would be to know what is going
to happen in the future! We would spend all our life worrying about it instead
of enjoying all the wonderful blessings of today. “Sufficient for the day is
the evil thereof” (Matthew 6:34 KJV).

This day
holds many great things. They may not all be good. I may struggle with some of
them, but I know there is nothing to hard for God (Jeremiah 32:17) and he will
take care of me (Matthew 6:24-34). The old hymn says “God will take care of
you, through every day o’er all the way, He will take care of you. God will
take care of you”.

What a
comfort to know that no matter what happens in my life, my Shepherd will take
care of me. What an awesome God we serve! How much he gave just for me!  How much he cares for me! I want to be sure today
that I thank him for all he has done.

What a
blessed people we are! If I am confident God will take care of me today, then why
should I be discouraged about what might happen tomorrow or 5 years from now? If
God takes care of me today, then he will take care of all my tomorrows and I
can rest confidently in him.

What a
wonderful, loving savior we serve who cares about us today, and all our
tomorrows.

Dear Father,
thank you for taking care of me today. I do not know what tomorrow holds but you
do. Empower me with the confidence that you have everything in control. I pray
this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and courageous today trusting the
Shepherd,
