“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be
in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall
hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt
his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from
all my fears.” (Psalm 34:1-4 KJV)
It was a beautiful day and while
Sylvester attended a Board meeting in Birmingham I decided to get in some
retail therapy at the Galleria. Since I arrived there early before the shops opened,
I went to the food court, got a coffee and was enjoying some quiet time until I
looked up. On the glass dome directly overhead, several men were working.

I immediately thought, “oh no,
what if they fall through those windows? I am sitting right here below them.
Somebody’s going to get hurt, not only me but the workers too.”

The workers were securely tethered
and worked without fear of anything happening. As I sat there watching them, I thought
“I was perfectly happy and safe until I looked up and saw them working and brought
this fear on myself.”

Like Peter when he said, “Lord,
if it is you, bid me come”. And Christ said, “come.” All was going great until
Peter looked around, saw the waves, became fearful and began to sink.

Aren’t we sometimes that way in
our relationship with Christ? We say we trust him and then suddenly something
comes along that creates worry and fear. We begin to question whether we can
trust him.

The workers overhead were not
fearful of what they were doing. They were doing their work with complete confidence.
I was the one who feared and worried that something might go wrong. I am like
that, sometimes, when I say I trust Christ in all things yet look around in fear
of what might happen.

Why should I be fearful when I
have put my trust in him? He is my rock, my shield, my fortress, my strength! I
can trust him in every circumstance of my life. I am confident that he will
keep me safe. He is my security and I trust him!

Dear Father, thank you for the security
and trust I have in you. I trust you with everything in my life. I am not afraid
of what tomorrow holds because you hold tomorrow. Enable me with the confidence
that You also control today, holding my hand, keeping me safe and secure. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and courageous today
trusting Christ,
trusting Christ,
