“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (NIV)
My three month old grandson, Grant, is at my house and at his present age there is nothing to do but suck on his fist and eat anything that comes near his mouth. He is presently living a life of pure trust, even though he doesn’t know that. Everything must be done for him. He can’t feed himself. He can soil diapers, but he can’t remove them and replace them with clean ones. All he really knows how to do is yell to the top of his lungs when he is hungry or senses another need. And we all cater to him because he is only a three month old, cute and cuddly baby.
Pure trust . . . that must be what Abraham exemplified. At age 75, God promised him that he would become a great nation with descendents too numerous to count. Yet, at age 90, he and Sarah still didn’t have any children. But Abraham trusted God! In fact, when he wavered God encouraged him with these words: “Is anything too hard for God?” (Gen. 18: 14)
On this 8th day of January 2009, the beginning of the second week of the New Year let’s not waver in faith, but receive God’s encouragement. All His promises are “yes” and “Amen” in Christ! By the Holy Spirit, He will direct us in our journey to obtain every one of them.
Dear Father, thank you for the hope we have in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Empower us with the joy and peace of trusting in Him. And flood us with the power of the Holy Spirit. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today by trusting and hoping in God,
