The Works of God

“But ye shall receive after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 (KJV)

When asked if he believed that miracles and gifts of the Spirit were ONLY for the Early Church, Reformed pastor and theologian Andrew Murray (1828-1917) replied, “Ah, no! What about the power of heathenism even today wherever the gospel seeks to combat it, even in our modern society, and in the midst of the ignorance and unbelief which reigns even in the Christian nations?”

Many people think that they do not need the Holy Spirit’s help. Yet, considering the challenges of post modern thinking, how ridiculous is that? What an obvious trick of the adversary! Paganism hasn’t changed. Human condition hasn’t changed. Secularism and relativism hasn’t changed. People still have serious questions. And people still do not want to be accountable. Why would anyone possibly think that there is no need for the work of the Holy Spirit?

Since the Bible seems to serve less and less as a guide for the world’s societies, we need the power and acts of the Holy Spirit more than ever.

Dear Father, thank you for the gift of your Spirit. Empower us to do the works of God. In the name of Jesus I pray. AMEN

Be encouraged today in the work of the Holy Spirit,
