“For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” John 6:33 (NAS)
Then said Jesus unto the twelve, “Will ye also go away?” Then Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” John 6:67-69 (KJV)
Some people consider the Bible as The Good Book, a source of religious comfort and inspiration as one needs them.
Others consider the Bible as an icon of religious study and debate. It becomes an image of Christian tradition but a hindrance to personal relationship with the Christ of the Bible.
Beyond these attitudes is the fact that Jesus is the crucified Lord of Glory, the resurrected Living Word. He invites us to deny self as a source of salvation and rely on God’s grace.
This is a dangerous book. It leads us into a personal relationship with a holy and eternal God. It is a dynamic book. The Bible leads us out of an old, selfish, degrading lifestyle. The question is whether it is leading us . . . you and me.
Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Thank you for the life produced in us by your Word. Empower us with a hunger and thirst for it daily. Enable us to be men and women of the Book. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN
Let us praise God for the Bible and allow it to lead us daily,
