The Wise Search

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” Matthew 2:1-2 (KJV)

Something about this story holds my interest. It isn’t just a child’s story for the family’s December celebrations. It relates the time and place that Emmanuel came into our world. This story tells us about some men who recognized the importance of the person and the event. Those men considered Emmanuel’s birth so important that they traveled long distances under harsh conditions to find the newborn and worship him. Matthew calls them wise men.

O that men and women, boys and girls would search for Emmanuel today. Such a search shows real wisdom. There is so much we can search for in our world, but nothing compares to the value of knowing Christ, our Savior. What would it benefit us to gain all the world’s riches, if we lose our soul? Everything is worthless compared to the superior experience of knowing Christ Jesus – Emmanuel.

So then, the question arises: what are we searching for? Are we wise or foolish?

Dear Father, thank you for coming to us in Jesus Christ. Empower us in our continued search for and study of the one who is God with us. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in your search for more knowledge of Jesus,
