“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)
Janie splashed water on her face, dried it off, and hurried into the kitchen for her coffee. It seemed that her Bible was calling to her. It was as though God urged her to come, sit with him. The desire for God burned deep within. Janie knew that she wasn’t perfect, yet she had decided to be proactive in the battle against the enemy. “The first line of attack,” she thought, “is those nagging temptations.”
She cringed at the thought of how the enemy had mocked her feeble attempts to escape his tactics. Now that she understood the source and power of his strategy, she felt better able to resist him. Janie knew, however, that she could not win the battles alone. She needed help.
At the Holy Spirit’s direction, she opened the Bible and read 1 Corinthians 10:13. Excitement flooded over her as she learned that her temptations were normal and no worse than anyone else’s. She loved the affirmation of God’s faithfulness. Janie believed her devotionals were elements of God’s faithfulness to her. He was faithfully teaching her how to escape spiritual defeat. Then, his promise began to reverberate in her ears. She looked around because it seemed he had literally spoken to her. “I will not let you be tempted beyond your ability to cope with it. Instead, with every temptation, I will make a way for you to escape its trap. My escape route will enable you to endure the enemy’s temptation.” Praise exploded in her heart! God loved her so much that he would watch for temptations. He would block those, which were beyond her ability to deal with. He would design and implement an escape route for those he allowed. And if she would submit to his escape plan, she could endure everything the enemy threw at her. What an awesome God! Hallelujah! Glory to his name! Praise and honor unto him alone!
Dear Father, thank you for the way of escape you provide. Empower us to resist the enemy at all times. Help us to know when to run from his schemes. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Let us praise God for his way of escape,
