The Strength and Power of God

“Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.” Psalm 59:17 (KJV)

Psalm 59 is a prayer of anguish. David’s world has caved in. He has lost favor with King Saul. There are bounty hunters watching his house with orders from the king to kill him if they find him. He is innocent of all royal charges but he has no place to hide, so David turns to the Lord.

In the physical situation David knew he was helpless. He had no influence. He had no power to change the situation. His few friends could not jeopardize themselves and their families. It looked like David was powerless, but David knew Jehovah Elohim. And He is never powerless!

So David took his anguished heart to God. What a great example! When we need a friend, when our world is crashing around us, when it seems like the situation is hopeless, when we are powerless to effect any changes, God is there waiting for us to give it to Him. He is never powerless! And He is on our side!

Dear Father, thank you for your support in our need. We will sing of your strength. You are our defense! You are our God! Let your mercy continue to flood our lives. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
