The Ordinary Day

“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24 NIV)

What are the pieces of our days? Days of our lives . . . schedules that run incessantly . . . issues that affect us minute by minute. How we sip them away, how they slip past us. Will a mishap ruin the day or will it inspire us to stay.

What are the pieces of our days? Do they ruin the day? Without doubt, that’s just what does happen. We let some insignificant error, misplace word, or social faux pas color every remaining moment in that day. Why did you say that? Why didn’t you apologize? Why would you do such a thing? We berate ourselves pointlessly. How many days have we sacrificed on the altar of self-regret?

It is difficult for us to realize that the Lord creates the day. He permits every event to occur just as it does . . . even our mishaps. What is the Lord trying to teach us with the variety of events in this day? It is a priceless jewel, this day. There will never be another day like today. Yesterday wasn’t like today! Tomorrow will not be like today! There will never be another day like today!

An ordinary day? Well, not really. Today is full of surprises. Today contains things we may see, hear, and do. An ordinary day? Certainly not! Today is touched by the Master’s hand. Today is filled with presence of the Only Wise Eternal God, every moment, every hour.

An ordinary day? Never! Stop looking for the ordinary and begin to see the extraordinary, even in the days that aren’t quite as good as we wish.

Dear Father, thank you for your extraordinary handiwork in our lives. Empower us with your grace to see the significant things in each new day. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be courageous today,
