The High Calling

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14 (KJV)

Now there’s an attitude for us to emulate. A focus on the past and past events is a constant obstacle to most people. What would happen in our lives if we would just let it go and move on? What marvelous experiences might we have if we would focus on the present and future? Consider that what we think about will direct our present and ultimately our future.

Charles F. Kettering wrote, “You can’t have a better tomorrow if you are thinking about yesterday all the time.”

So, let the past rest. Wonderful, horrible, or mundane we can’t change it. It is set forever in our history. Accept that and move forward. Decide to have a better tomorrow. Reach forth to those things that are before us. Step confidently into the unexplored realm of the Holy Spirit. Our goal is the prize for which God has called us. Focus on it and run to achieve it. You can do it!

Dear Father, thank you for your calling in Christ Jesus. Empower us with a confidant focus. Grant us the grace to let go of the past. Empower us with vision and passion to embrace the present and future. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for our eternal future and live to his glory in the present,
