“Who then is the faithful and wise slave, whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give the other slaves their allowance of food at the proper time? Blessed is that slave whom his master will find at work when he arrives.” Matthew 24:45-46 (NRS)
Have you ever noticed how we human beings think in terms of big issues? We want the million dollar prize. We want to come up with the next big solution to the world’s problems. And of course most of us get depressed over the obstacles and give up without making a dent of an effort.
Consider for a moment: why not find a small, simple issue that gets things moving in the direction of a solution? Perhaps the small and simple won’t get media attention or an invitation to the White House, but it is a start. How does one find the small and simple, you might ask? The place to look is in your own soul. What has God charged you with? What is the ministry to which you are called? Begin there. Make a difference in the lives of those you serve, where you are. Solve the small issues that trouble the lives of those to whom you minister.
Who knows what you can do? Maybe you can start a hospitality room at church. Maybe you can teach a young adults class. Maybe you can visit the widows and orphans. Maybe you can type letters for the pastor. Maybe you can . . .
Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Empower us with high expectations and enable us to be faithful where you have planted us. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
