“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
Who would not want God to direct his or her life? The common thread among humans is the desire for good things in one’s life. We seem to believe that if good things happen, then God has directed but if bad things happen he didn’t. Is it possible that at such times, we are leaning on our understanding?
The Wise man gives us three key conditions to Divine direction of our lives. First, trust the director. Second, do not rely on limited knowledge. Finally, acknowledge the director in every facet of life.
I willingly acknowledge that this is not as simple to implement as a 3-point action plan. It is, in fact, difficult for most people to do consistently. In the normal course of human events and decisions, we do not give these three points much consideration. I agree that we should but we don’t. We are self-oriented creatures who have self-serving desires. We want God to give us his rubber-stamp-approval and not bother us with his conditions.
Trust, understanding, and acknowledgement however, require us to release control and our demands. I suppose the choice is individual. Direct our own lives or let him. I prefer his direction. He doesn’t mess it up.
Dear Father, thank you for your direction. Forgive us, O Lord, for leaning on our own understanding. Grant us the strength to acknowledge you in all we do. Keep us in your tender care. I ask this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today as you let God direct the path you take,
