“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12 NASB)
Not only do Christians serve the Living God, we practice our beliefs based on his living story found in his living book, The Bible. And we discover that God’s words are alive and active. They are sharp enough to cut away all the doubt and unbelief from our souls. His words will pierce our lives directly to the point that needs spiritual surgery, therapy, and rehab.
It is a marvelous thing that God’s words can define and judge our thoughts and intentions. Since we do not know ourselves as well as we think, his words clearly identify the motives behind our actions. This is, of course, sometimes uncomfortable and may even be painful, but profitable to us who truly desire the rest that remains for the people of God.
So, the Christian’s goal is to diligently enter into that rest, so that we do not fall because of disobedience (v. 11). Whatever is lost by the two-edged sword’s surgery will be worth every second in the eternity of God’s presence beside the River of Life in the City of God.
Dear Father, thank you for your Word and it’s transformational work. Empower us to submit our beliefs and practices to its surgery. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today in God’s two-edged sword,
