The Blessed

“O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
Psalm 34:3 and 8 (KJV)

At any given time, pastors see people who are troubled about various personal issues: growing older, career choices, family problems, surgery issues, lifestyle adjustments, financial difficulty, sin’s traps, etc. We always prescribe Scriptural medication and refer the individual to the Bible for continuing pastoral care. We suggest practical wisdom where appropriate and provide counsel where choices exist.

But, with few exceptions, people tend to ignore what they do not want to except as the inevitable: age, limited ability, dim eyesight, hearing loss, retirement, limited income, permanent disability, special needs, and the list goes on. Trouble, sorrows, problems, and challenges by any other name are still discouraging and inflict pain. They challenge us, break our hearts, and can crush our spirits. Then we remember “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 (NLT)

Of course, as momma always said, we can look around and see others worse off than we are. That is not intended to be callous. Rather, momma was telling us to stop complaining and be thankful that our circumstances are not worse. I have discovered that despite momma’s “homespun wisdom,” it is easier to listen to the Lord. He has promised that no matter my circumstances, good or not so good, he is near me and will rescue me from my brokenhearted, crushed spirit.

His promise plus my confidence in him changes things. Suddenly, my mountain becomes a molehill. To face life’s issues with magnified praise for the Lord is the epitome of faith and trust. Consider the blessings we enjoy simply because we trust in him.

“O taste and see that the LORD is good!”

Dear Father, thank you for your love and care. Empower us with trusting confidence. Enable us to be examples to others. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for his care and be an example to others,
