God took an oath that Christ would always be a priest, but he never did this for any other priest. Only to Jesus did he say, “The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow: ‘You are a priest forever.’ ” Because of God’s oath, it is Jesus who guarantees the effectiveness of this better covenant. Hebrews 7:20-22 (NLT)
One of the small, but important, frustrations in life is how businesses change their personnel. They seemed to have forgotten that people like doing business with someone they know. They like banking with a banker they have known for years. They buy cars from a salesperson they went to school with or grew up with in the community. It is frustrating to go back to a business and the person you did business with has gone. This is a normal experience in our world. It is not the norm, however, in the Christian realm. What a comfort to have the biblical assurance that our high priest will neither change nor be replaced. Every time we go to the throne of grace, our high priest is there . . . same as last time.
Thank God he isn’t fickle! Thank God he is steadfast and certain! Thank God his oaths form a solid foundation! The declaration is that Jesus “guarantees the effectiveness” of God’s covenant with us, and it is a “better covenant” than that given under the Jewish priesthood. Thank God!
Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Thank you for Jesus, our high priest. Forgive us our faults and failures. O Lord, deliver us the temptations of this world. Grant that our faith in Jesus Christ as our covenant and guarantee will never waiver. In Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN
Let us praise God for his better covenant and live in faith,
