“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3 KJV)
Thanksgiving day! A time to pause and give praise and honor to God for his abundant blessings. The songwriter penned these words: “Count your many blessings, name them one by one. Count your many blessings see what God has done.” So today pause long enough to acknowledge the hand of God in your life.
Our tradition of Thanksgiving begins with all the family around the table. The food is there ready to eat, but first, even before the prayer, we each give a personal reason we are thanking God. Counting our blessings is an important exercise.
From the youngest to the eldest, the opportunity is passed around the table, just like the turkey and the gravy. Everyone can say what he/she is thankful for. Some thanks are long and some are short, but they are all meaningful to our family.
Our teens sometimes balk and roll their eyes, but then rise eloquently to the occasion as pressed to give thanks. We do not eat until everyone has given a personal thanks. This is not about turkey and dressing. It is not about sweet potato pie. It is not even about family time. It is about thanking and praising the Almighty God, our God, for his wonderful grace and blessings.
He is to be praised because he has blessed us “with all spiritual blessings” and all the physical ones too.
Dear Father, thank you for your indescribable blessings. We are truly at a loss for words to adequately express our love and appreciation for all the blessings you have bestowed on us. We give you praise and glory for each and every one of them. I give this praise and thanks in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be courageous today in your thanksgiving,
