TGIF

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” 2 Timothy 4:7 (NLT)

TGIF is a popular acronym for the phrase ‘Thank God It’s Friday.’ It has become a common, American expression of relief that the work week is ending and weekend bliss is beginning. TGIF has also become a common advertising gimmick. During the 1970s, college kids shortened the acronym to “TG” and held outdoor, Friday afternoon beer parties.

An elderly gentleman was raking his yard on a warm spring morning. He had completed half of the job when a young man stopped and asked if he could rake his yard for him. The elder asked the youth why he was offering his services. “Because,” the youth replied, “I get most of my clients from people who are half finished.”

All great projects begin at the first of the week with a great idea or goal and lots of zeal. But by Friday, we are less enthusiastic, more distracted, out of gas. By Friday, we have given our best and worked our hardest. We are ready for rest and recreation, a little change of pace, and relaxation from the mental stress. And we deserve it. It is an essential ingredient in order to return on Monday with renewed vigor and enthusiasm to complete the project.

The important thing to remember is that finishing is more important than taking a break. The break is refreshing and necessary, but finishing is the key to successful achievement.

Dear Father, thank you for your grace and mercy. Empower us with the zeal for finishing our course. Instill in us the character of faithfulness. Enable us to persevere to the end. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for his plan and live to achieve his purpose,
