“Oh, sing to
the LORD a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His
holy arm have gained Him the victory. The LORD has made known His salvation;
His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.” (Psalm
98:1-2 NKJ)
Once in a while ole
Grumpy arrives and drives our singing desire away. After all, why sing? It
takes breath, lots of it. It takes energy, too much. And any way, what have we
got to sing about? Yes, we all know Grumpy’s arguments.

Now consider to whom
we sing. Our audience is Jehovah, the Creator of all things. Jehovah, the Judge
of all judges. Jehovah, our Savior!

A new song? What
shall we sing about? Well, let’s see. We could start with his marvelous works
in our lives. His salvation would make a great theme for our new song. We could
sing about his righteousness and how he applies it to us. Then, there is the love
of a gracious God and Father. And his faithfulness toward his people would make
a great verse in our song. Wait, . . . perhaps there is more than one song we
could sing.

Who will write the
music? Music? We do not need a composer for our new song. It will fly on the
wings of praise and worship which is birthed in our hearts. The new song does
not need a common tune. That would ruin it. No. The new song is
individualistic. It already resides in each of our hearts. We only need to open
our hearts and let it out. Simply put our own words of praise to it and the
music will follow. It will drive Grumpy away, too!
