Seeking a Solution

“From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” (John 6:66-70 KJV)

Today’s passage is from the Lord’s discourse on the bread of life. He has provided his audience with the answers they are seeking, yet many of them did not like his solutions. They rejected his message and stopped following him. Twenty-first century audiences are no different from those first century people.

Post-moderns are searching for answers. Yet, the right answer is not always palatable, so we continue our searching. We want the solution that instantly makes everything right and rosy in our lives. Don’t make us think about eating your flesh and drinking your blood. Sing to us of blessings and wealth and health and divine favor. It doesn’t hit home that the Lord’s answer to our questions solves our problems.

Of course like Peter, we may not understand fully, but we trust the Lord for the words of life we need. More importantly, He is Christ, the Son of the Living God. Where else could we find answers to our questions? To whom could we go for solutions to our problems? The songwriter tells us: “Where could I go? O where could I go? Seeking a refuge for my soul, needing a friend to save me in the end, where could I go but to the Lord!”

Dear Father, thank you for the solution to our problems. Grant to us the faith to trust your answers and the fortitude to accept the truth we need. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today with the solution Christ provides,
