“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12 NIV)
In a church where I served several years ago, an elderly church member developed breast cancer. She needed something done, but had been taught so rigidly about having faith and divine healing that she refused to even go see a doctor about her condition. She asked me about it and I explained that Scripture did not teach against the use of medicine or medical aide. I encouraged her to see a doctor, but to proceed no further than her conscience would allow. I encouraged her in her faith and assured her of my support no matter what she decided.
Eventually, she did see a doctor who counseled her to see a surgeon which she also did. After the procedure, she went from a point of near death to living several more years with an excellent quality of life.
That is what living, active Scripture does for us. It diagnoses the condition, provides solutions, and does the surgery if we will let it. It penetrates to the source of the problem without damaging the whole person. It deals with the thought and attitude structure so that we can clearly see and understand what is needed for life.
To see ourselves through the biblical x-ray produces a new perspective. Accepting and receiving the biblical prescription is to be delivered from death unto life.
Dear Father, thank you for your solution to our problems. Give us the humility to receive the life-giving solutions of Scripture. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today by the Scripture’s solution,
