Satisfied Contentment

“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5 (KJV)

The young couple had tried to have children for several years without success. It became an earnest petition before God. Finally, God answered the prayer and blessed them with a boy. Within six months of his arrival, however, he began having violent seizures and the doctors reported that it was a lifetime handicap. Despite this news, mom and dad worked to make the child’s life as normal as possible.

In addition, they never missed church and committed the child’s condition to God. As the child grew, he also loved and trusted the Lord. The father usually held the boy during worship services. One Sunday morning, during the sermon, the boy had a seizure. The father very firmly but gently held his son and went to the rear of the sanctuary. Holding his son in a close embrace, he calmly whispered soothing words in his ear. This father was neither embarrassed nor frustrated. He calmly showed the deep, abiding love in his heart. What a demonstration of the heavenly father’s love!

In our self-examinations, we tend to emphasize our failures and weaknesses and minimize God’s grace and love. Despite our spiritual seizures, our afflictions, our struggles, our failures, and our imperfections, the heavenly father cares for us. He whispers soothing comfort with his Word and encourages us as the Spirit draws us close to him. His promise to never forsake us is the foundation of contentment.

Dear Father, thank you for your abiding love and care. Forgive me for the times I have been seized with lust for new circumstances and worldly cares. O, God, deliver me from the cares of this life and give me the grace to conduct my life and ministry satisfied in your love and care. I pray this in Jesus’ name. AMEN

Let us praise God for his abiding love and care and live contented in his will,

Pastor Smith
