After a thousand
plus years, one would think that all people everywhere would take refuge in
God’s anointed King without question. It seems like, over time, the
proliferation of the Bible and biblical beliefs would have convinced everyone.
Yet sadly, we know this not the case.

Yet sadly, we know this not the case.
People from every
nation continue to resist God, considering his truth to be “chains and
shackles.” It is no wonder that their governments conspire against God’s
kingdom. They believe it is possible to be free from God’s rule. But, from his
throne, God chuckles at their stupidity and terrifies them by his royal decree:
“I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain” (v. 6).

God has decreed:
“You are my son; today I have become your father. Ask me, and I will make
the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will
break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery”
(vss. 7-9). When God decrees, one can only surrender or be conquered. Jesus
Christ possesses the whole universe as his inheritance from his Father, because
God has decreed it to be so.

Surrender is a wise
decision, but simply appealing to wise thinking fails to get the world’s
attention. Celebrating his kingdom is much better than mourning our defeat.

When wisdom doesn’t
prevail, then a warning is needed: “your way will lead to your
destruction.” Yet, warnings with no escape is merely an angry threat, but
God offers mercy for those who trust him. “Blessed are all who take refuge
in him.” O what a refuge! It continues throughout all eternity!

Dear Father, thank
you for the refuge you give to us through your anointed king, Jesus Christ. May
we all hide our lives in his refuge. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
