Reflecting the Glory of Christ

“And all of us have had that veil removed so that we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him and reflect his glory even more.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NLT)
Read chapter 3 for context.

Reflections are mirror images of the original. In the southern culture of America, we say, “He looks just like his daddy;” or “She favors her mother.” When a parent is angry with a child’s behavior, he/she might say, “You act just like your father/mother.” As an individual grows older, he/she might say, “As I get older, I see my dad/mom in everything I do.”

When an individual expresses the attitude and behaviors of the original, everyone around him/her recognizes the resemblance of the original. Sometimes the only one who does not see the reflection/resemblance is the one doing the reflecting. His/her eyes seem to be blinded or veiled from the realties of resemblance.

When the face of Moses glistened from the glory of God, he covered his face so that the people would not know that God’s glory was fading (v.13). This veiling of his face also blocked the people from understanding that the old covenant would end one day. Paul said, “their minds were blinded: for until this day the veil is there” (v.14). A new testament was intended but they clung to the glory of the old one. Even though the old was fulfilled in Christ, they could not understand the greater glory in him. Under God’s new covenant, the veil of the old glory is removed. The old covenant only ministered condemnation that led to death. The new covenant is ministered by the Spirit of the living God. His ministry is writing the new covenant of life upon the hearts of those who believe in Christ. Through Christ the veil of the old covenant is removed so that we can resemble the Glorious Lord of the covenant. “And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him and reflect his glory even more.”

Dear Father, thank you for the new covenant of Jesus Christ. Wash us in the sacrifice of his blood. Enable us to yield ourselves to his working in us so that we may brightly reflect his glory. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today as you reflect glory of Christ,
