Recall and Hope

“This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. The LORD’S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.” (Lamentations  3:21-24 NAS)

I suspect that we do not remind ourselves enough of the hope we have. Our memories may fail us. Perhaps we can leave one room and enter another forgetting why we did, but God — our God — never ceases to love us nor forgets why He loves us. The Lord is always kind and loving. We have hope!

During the course of our lives, we may fail to be compassionate to ourselves and others. Yet, God — our God — never lets his compassion for us get cold or old. Instead, his compassion is fervent and new every morning when we awaken from sleep. “His compassions never fail.” We have hope!

We live in a world of ever decreasing commitment, loyalty, and faithfulness. Marriages break up, businesses fail, people bankrupt, promises are broken, contracts are reached, and on and on and on . . .
Yet, the Lord’s faithfulness never ends. Semper Fidelis is not something the US Marines invented. God — our God — was faithful before they adopted the motto and continues to be faithful even when they fail to be. His faithfulness is eternal. We have hope!

That is why we tell ourselves, “the LORD is my inheritance, therefore I have hope in Him.” We have hope because the Lord — Christ — holds our portion of the Kingdom safe and secure. He is our security! He is our hope!

Dear Father, thank you for the hope you provide through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Enable us to remember your benefits and be firm in our hope. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in your hope,
