Present Confidence, Future Hope

Courage Today
“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
Proverbs 27:1 (ESV)

“Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.“
Proverbs 27:1 (NLT)

When I don’t know what to do next or it seems that the future may collapse in on me, I remember the following testimonial song written by Ira Stanphill. It always reminds me to live my present life to the fullest, with complete confidence in God and his promise.

“I Know Who Holds Tomorrow”
by Ira Stanphill
“I don’t know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day
I don’t borrow from its sunshine, For its skies may turn to gray
I don’t worry o’er the future, For I know what Jesus said
And today I’ll walk beside Him, For He knows what is ahead.

Ev’ry step is getting brighter as the golden stairs I climb
Ev’ry burden’s getting lighter, Ev’ry cloud is silver lined
There the sun is always shining, There no tear will dim the eye
At the ending of the rainbow, Where the mountains touch the sky

I don’t know about tomorrow, It may bring me poverty
But the one who feeds the sparrow, Is the one who stands by me
And the path that be my portion, May be thru the flame or flood
But His presence goes before me, And I’m covered by His blood.”

Wow! No matter what happens, Jesus promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us. And despite the difficulties and hazards of this life, I am still His child!

Dear Father, I acknowledge that I don’t know what the future holds for me, for my family, for my country and the world. But my confidence is in Jesus Christ who “is before all things and by whom all things are held together.” Inspire me to dream about tomorrow but give me the grace and confidence to live today for your purpose. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Let us praise God for His plan and live for His purpose,

Pastor Smith
