Pray For America

“This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it
and established it–the LORD is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and
tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’”(Jeremiah 33:2-3 NIV)

The tragedy of September 11, 2001
is still with us despite the passing of eleven years. Some people sincerely
think that constant remembrance produces a vigilance that will protect us from
future attacks. Such a philosophy and attitude is unconvincing. Despite our
heightened awareness after December 7, 1941 – despite 60 years of constant
remembering Pearl Harbor – our enemy still attacked on September 11, 2001. Our sixty-year
vigilance did nothing to deter the enemy.

Yes, we should honor the fallen as
Americans have always done . . . by constant remembrance, honor events, and
prayer vigils. Those precious lives, destroyed in the horrible 9/11 attacks [New
York, Pennsylvania, Virginia (Pentagon)], were as much a price for freedom as
the one paid by sailors, marines and soldiers at Pearl Harbor and every other wartime
event throughout US history.

Yet, I must insist that
remembrances, honor events and constant vigilance are not sufficient deterrents
to future attacks from an enemy. Similarly, locks on doors do not deter
criminals from breaking in. If the criminal wants our “stuff” bad enough or an
enemy is determined and motivated enough with his own agenda, we cannot keep
them from doing their evils.

However, there is hope! While we
cannot deter the enemy in all circumstances, there is one on the throne of the
universe who can stop our enemies, physical and spiritual, in their tracks. He
is God, the father of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. America needs to trust
in him again. It is not enough to say, “God bless America.” It is not enough to
have “in God we trust” inscribed on our money. We must repent of our sins and
return to God as our only God and refuge.

My prayer to God is that he will
forgive America her sins. I pray that he will cause all of America’s enemies,
domestic and foreign, to fall into the traps they have designed against us. I
pray that God will destroy all their schemes against freedom-loving people. I
pray that God will abundantly bless every family who has contributed to our
freedom by giving the ultimate sacrifice of their loved ones.

Dear Father, thank you for the
freedom we enjoy here in America. Thank you for the freedom we enjoy through
your Son, Jesus Christ. Hear our cries O Lord, in behalf of our nation and
those who have sacrificed so greatly. Have mercy, I pray in the name of Jesus.
AMEN

Be strong and courageous today praying
for America,
