When Jesus departed
from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Son of
David, have mercy on us!” And when He had come into the house, the blind
men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to
do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He touched their
eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” And their
eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one
knows it.” But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in
all that country. (Matthew 9:27-31 NKJ)

How many times have
we taken our needs to the Lord crying out, “Have mercy on me, dear Jesus?”
Probably more times than we can remember. And of course that is proper since
the Bible teaches us to “come boldly to the throne of grace” to receive mercy
and grace to help us in our time of need (Heb. 4:16).

The very fact that
we take our needs to him shows that we believe he will answer our requests.
“For the one who comes to him must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder
of those who diligently seek him” (Heb. 11:6b).

It is interesting to
note, however, that after these two blind men came to Jesus, he insisted they
confirm their faith. It is also interesting to note that he linked their
healing to the span of their faith. Let us not miss this important point: “It
shall be done to you according to your faith.”

Their requests were
supplied. And they were so grateful that they ignored his instructions. Their
hearts were so full of gratitude that they couldn’t help but glorify God and
witness about Jesus. We should do likewise as he blesses us.

“Bless the Lord, O
my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my
soul, and do not forget any of his benefits; who pardons all my iniquities, who
heals all my diseases; who redeems my life from destruction, who crowns me with
his love and compassion; who satisfies my desires with good things, so that my
youth is renewed like the eagle” (Psalm 103:1-5 SyS).
