“Blessed be the
King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the
highest.” (Luke 21:38 KJV)
As Jesus rode into
Jerusalem on the donkey, where would we be, on the outskirts of the crowd or
leading the pack? What about this triumphal ride? Jesus had performed
incredible miracles in other places, but never with any fanfare.

Yet, there is no
rebuke for the cheering crowd. Instead, he actually defends their shouts of
praise (v. 40). We can easily picture him sitting erect astride that humble
little donkey. It is easy to imagine a crown on his head and royal robes draped
over his shoulders as he enters the City of David.

Back then, the crowd
was cheering a King and the idea of independence from the Roman Empire. But,
today we worship and praise the Resurrected Savior who is coming as the King of
Kings and the Lord of Lords. Despite our reticence, a little assertive behavior
might be in order. Perhaps we should push to the front of the crowd.

Sports events,
Hollywood dance shows, and music concerts do not merit as much praise as
“the King who comes in the name of the Lord.” For him, we should
reserve our loudest, most vibrant praise.

Dear Father, thank
you for sending our Savior and King. Empower us with the boldness to shout
aloud his praises and proclaim him to our world. This I pray in the name of
Jesus. AMEN
