“To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.” Acts 1:3 (NAU)
Have you ever wondered why some people are passionate and submit to suffering when conditions become difficult? Most of us are hesitant to continue toward our “goal” unless we are given guarantees of prosperity and success. What is it about sports that make fans so passionate? Where are the Christians who are more passionate about the Savior than their favorite team?
The emotional, passionate side of following Christ is often played down for fear of encouraging fanaticism or self-serving emotionalism. While it is important to remember that Christ did not die for our earthly comfort, happiness, or satisfaction, we must not lose sight of the fact that Calvary contains a passionate sacrifice for a passionate salvation. Knowing Christ is an emotional, passionate experience! Serving him is based on this emotional, passionate experience.
Today’s text expresses our Lord’s passion correctly. He showed himself to his disciples after his passion was completed through his suffering. Passion for a goal will always lead us through suffering. Nothing is easy in life. If it is worth our time, it will cost us something to pursue it. The eternal salvation of humanity was valuable to God. It cost him his son. How valuable is his sacrifice to us?
Dear Father, thank you for your sacrifice which produced grace and mercy for us. Grant to us the same sort of passion for your kingdom. This I pray in Jesus’ name. AMEN
Let us praise God for his sacrifice on Calvary and live passionately for him,
