Our Stronghold

“I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.” Psalm 18:1-3 (NIV)

Sometimes obligations and responsibilities can overwhelm us. Many times our dreams and desires weight us down. Other times, we simply gather too much on “our plate.” Then, anytime things seem to go sour, an emergency arises, or our circumstances change we get antsy and bewildered. The hand-wringing starts. We run around asking, “what do I do now?”

“Where could I go but to the Lord?,” these precious words from an old hymn supplies the answer. Every time, no matter what, our response should be to take our burdens to the LORD and ask him what we should do.

He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. When we feel forsaken, we are not! When we feel all alone, we are not! When we are overwhelmed by situations and circumstances, he is our rock, our fortress, our deliverer. Praise his holy name!

Dear Father, thank you for being our shield and stronghold. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from every temptation. Empower us with faith that endures. In the name of Jesus, I pray. AMEN

Be encouraged in the LORD’s strength today,
