Our Hope

“Thou art my hope in the day of evil.” Jer. 17:17 (KJV)

Our world is full of doubters and skeptics . . . Intellectual opposition. They say, “Who will show us any good?” (Psalm 4:6) or “Where is the promise of his coming?” (2 Peter 3:4). Yet, the Only Wise Eternal God has mercy upon them. He probably giggles at their ignorance (Pro. 1:26). Most likely He is grieved at their rejection.

In any case, believers lift up our hearts to him because we are confident that He will smile upon us. We will shout his praises and sing about his mercies from morning to night. We know that when trouble comes, as it has and will again, God is our refuge and our defense (Psa. 59:16). Without him . . . well we just wouldn’t want to try it.

No matter what our circumstances, — trouble or prosperity — we refuse to be moved by them. We are confident that “all things work together for our good” (Rom. 8:28). He is our hope and our salvation! Where could we go but to him? He alone is worthy of our trust.

He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), and since He has never failed us, we are confident that He won’t. When sorrow has come, He brought us joy. When we wept through the night, He filled us with joy in the morning. When sorrows like sea billows roll, He gives peace to our soul.

He was, is now, and forever shall be our hope . . . any day . . . every day . . . today!

Dear Father, thank you for the hope we have through Christ. Strengthen us with your abiding presence. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today by your hope in Christ,
