“Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.“ Proverbs 27:1 (NLT)
When I don’t know what to do next or it seems that my future is uncertain, I remember this wonderful old hymn. It reminds me to live life without worry, and to trust God with complete confidence in his promise.
“I Know Who Holds Tomorrow”
by Ira Stanphill
“I don’t know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day
I don’t borrow from its sunshine, For its skies may turn to gray
I don’t worry o’er the future, For I know what Jesus said
And today I’ll walk beside Him, For He knows what is ahead.
Ev’ry step is getting brighter as the golden stairs I climb
Ev’ry burden’s getting lighter, Ev’ry cloud is silver lined
There the sun is always shining, There no tear will dim the eye
At the ending of the rainbow, Where the mountains touch the sky
I don’t know about tomorrow, It may bring me poverty
But the one who feeds the sparrow, Is the one who stands by me
And the path that be my portion, May be thru the flame or flood
But His presence goes before me, And I’m covered by His blood.”
Wow! No matter what happens, Jesus promised that He would never leave me nor forsake me. And despite the difficulties and hazards of this life, I am still His child!
Dear Father, thank you for a future that you have provided in Jesus Christ, who “is before all things and by whom all things are held together.” Inspire me to dream about tomorrow but give me the grace and confidence to live today for your purpose. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN.
Be encouraged today in the One who holds your future,
