“Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.” (Micah 7:7-8 KJV)
When we survey the world around us — church as well as society in general — we may very well consider, as Micah did, that we are living in degrading times. Good people have gone and “none upright among men” (v.2). Everyone does “evil with both hands” and governments and courts and heroes are all corrupt (v.3). The best of them will trap you and stick a knife in your back (v. 4). You can’t trust a friend nor anyone else with confidential matters (v.5). Even the people of his own house are a man’s enemies (v.6). This would depress us if we didn’t have a different perspective.
So, what are we going to do? Where do we turn in such degrading times? Is there no safe haven? Is there no hiding place? There certainly is! It takes some patience — a little or a lot — but there is a salvation for those who wait on the Lord.
When we look around and conclude that our world has surpassed the dogs and sinking even further in the quagmire of degradation, know that God is still our salvation! God listens when we call on him! God will lift us up above the storm! God will light up our darkness!
“Therefore I will look unto the Lord.” I will look to him when it is popular and when it is not. I will look unto him when the world is ugly and when it is beautiful. I will look unto him in the good times and in the bad. I will look unto him . . . I will look unto him . . . I will look unto him!
My enemy may rejoice against me, but he will be defeated! When the enemy brings darkness, God is my light! When the enemy lays traps, God is my rescue and refuge! When the enemy deceives, God is my friend and guide! When the enemy dispels hope, God is my salvation! He will not leave me nor forsake me! I will look unto him and wait for my God. He delivers his children from all their enemies.
Dear Father, thank you for being our God. Empower us with the confidence to patiently look unto you until our victory comes. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be courageous today in patiently looking unto Christ,
