“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (1John 1:5-7 KJV)
Isn’t this a great passage? God is light and there is absolutely no darkness in him at all. Man, what a message! If we fellowship with him, we will not walk in darkness because none exists in him, with him, or around him. Wow!
If we walk in his light, we fellowship one with another. If we walk in his light the blood of his Son, Jesus Christ, cleanses us from all sin. Wow! See, I said it was a great message.
Some one defined “saints” as: People who let the light shine through.” And this definition applies not only to revered people who receive special honor, but also to every individual who walks in his light. There are a lot of them in fact. Construction workers, bankers, clerks, secretaries, attorneys, nurses, medical doctors, farmers, business owners, funeral directors, veterinarians, cowboys . . . simple, ordinary people who let the light shine through.
The key is that God’s light shines through each one to the world around them. They are God’s stained windows filled with his light. They are God’s reflections whose ordinary everyday living is transformed by the radiance of his glory.
When we look at them, we hear the Holy Spirit whisper, “Look a little closer. You are capable of seeing more from their life example.” And because the Holy Spirit prompts us, we watch their lives carefully and we do see more . . . understand more . . . are inspired more . . . desire to be more.
When all we can see ahead is darkness and gloom, these reflectors of the light — these walkers in the light — point out the sacredness of troubles and afflictions and sorrows and trusting in his light. Then when they have gone, our untidy souls glisten and sparkle in the glory of his light because of their example. Through them the Light has shone.
Dear Father, thank you for your light. Enable us to faithfully walk with you in your light. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be courageous today and let the Light shine through,
