Legacy

“Walk about
Zion, And go all around her. Count her towers; Mark well her bulwarks; Consider
her palaces; That you may tell it to the generation following. For this is God,
Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide Even to death.” (Psalm 48:12-14
NKJ)
Five years ago
(09/30/2008) at 3:13 a.m. Grant was born. He was so tiny and delicate. All the
females from both families oohed and aahed over him and his daddy began
repeating “War Eagle!” into his tiny ears.
Prior to his birth,
we all eagerly anticipated what sort of child he would be. We hoped and prayed
for a normal, healthy birth. And God graciously granted that request. And
today, five years later, Grant is a healthy, rambunctious, mischievous,
joy-filled boy. And we thank the Lord for putting him in our lives. It has been
a joy to watch him grow and learn and gain some maturity. We have tried our
best to spoil him, but he just doesn’t seem to take to it. 🙂 LOL
Grant is a name that
expresses masculinity. It comes from an English and
Scottish surname which was derived from the Norman French
grand
meaning “great, large”. And someday, Grant will most likely visually
express his name, if he continues to grow at his present rate. Though he is
only five years old, the doctor says he is the size of a seven year old.
He is
still learning: how to interact with others; respect for his elders; sharing;
and self-discipline among other things. All he needs to know won’t simply walk
up and introduce themselves to him. He will need to search and discover some
things for himself. We are trying to steer him in the right direction.
I would
certainly like to be around to see him graduate from high school and college
and grow into adult manhood.  I do not
mean to be macabre here, it’s just that I am a realist. Yet, I know that age
happens. And eventually, my life here will end, but I intend to leave Grant a
heritage and a legacy that will impact his life and can be passed on to his
children and grandchildren.
It has
been the focus of my life to pass on God’s truth to my children and to other
people as well. And as long as I live and can spend time with Grant, I intend
to communicate the way, the truth and the life to him. And knowing the
inevitable, I intend to deposit Christian truth in the life of “Poppa’s
Boy.” Because if the Lord tarries, one day he will have his own poppa’s
boy to whom he can pass it on.
Dear
Father, thank you for the gift of grandchildren. By your grace, empower me to
deposit your truths into the life of my grandson. I humbly ask this in the name
of Jesus, my Savior and Lord. AMEN
Today,
tell it to the generation following,
