Inheritance

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” Romans 8:14-17 (KJV)

Thank you for your patience with me. I have been offline for the past week due to the death of my mother, Mrs. Ruby Smith. Mother was 85 years old and a Christian. She had professed Christ at age 11. Thanks to all who prayed for our family. We sincerely appreciate every expression of concern.

We praise God for a mother who taught us to believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. She taught us, both in word and action, to be led by the spirit of God. Her faithful example taught us to believe without fear because of the God who adopted us into his family. Her legacy is about experience and not simply a philosophy. Her legacy is about personal, intimate relationship and not just theological position.

And as Paul encourages us in today’s passage, “the Spirit bears witness with our spirit” that mother was a child of God. She left us a great legacy of faith and faithfulness. Like saints of old, she left this testimony that she loved the Lord and we believe that she pleased him. It is a great consolation to know that we can go where mother has gone. She did not leave us much in the way of temporal wealth, but she introduced us to Christ and that gave us an eternal inheritance as God’s children. As his children we are heirs and joint-heirs with Christ. We simply await the time when we will be glorified together with our mother and Christ.

Dear Father, thank you for the inheritance you give us through Christ. Empower us with the faith to persevere to the end. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in your inheritance,
