“Thanks be to
God for His indescribable gift!” (2Corinthians 9:15-1 NKJ)
God for His indescribable gift!” (2Corinthians 9:15-1 NKJ)
Our annual season of
gift-giving has only recently ended. During that season we have given and
received a variety of gifts. Some were nice. Some were great. Some were
unspeakable. Some were marvelous. None were indescribable.

Gifts are usually an
indication of love and affection. Occasionally, they are the focus of fun and
pranks. But even with a prank gift, there is something of the giver included.
Any gift worthy of the name has its origin in the giver’s heart.

For many people
gift-giving has lost its true meaning and value. We excuse ourselves by
claiming: “I just don’t have the time to shop for a gift.” In
addition, we demand a list of wishes and desires. Again we excuse ourselves by
claiming: “A list makes sure that I give something that is wanted.”

But with God there
are no excuses. He gave his only Son. He gave his best gift. He gave a gift so
incredible that we can only gasp in awe as we survey the extent to which he
gave. His heart was fully engaged in his gift. He didn’t need a list. He
already knew that we longed for his gift, even when we didn’t know that we
needed it or wanted it. His gift truly expresses his love and affection for us.

God’s gift is truly
indescribable! What’s left to say? Thanks be to God!

Dear Father, thank
you for your indescribable gift. Grant that we may truly show our appreciation
by receiving your gift and living for your glory. This I pray in the name of
Jesus. AMEN
