“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.” (Hebrews 1:1-4 KJV)
Our church’s state convention just ended this past Sunday. During our Presiding Bishop’s message, he challenged us with the text above. Listen with our ears but hear with our hearts! In addition, every sermon was anointed and powerful in the Spirit.
The meat of God’s Words was strong to make us healthy. It was full of knowledge and wisdom to increase our capacity for ministry. It was merciful and gracious to restore our souls. Perhaps, during our quiet time with God, we should ask him what he is trying to teach us.
Sometimes, it seem like everything we read or hear is about the same theme or subject. You know what I mean. Every sermon, devotional, friend’s conversation, etc. focuses on the same subject. It usually causes us to get real uncomfortable, real quick. But, just maybe, it is Jesus the Son speaking to us.
Don’t you think that God would rather you listen to his Son than anybody else? Don’t you think God is more interested in talking to you than hearing some memorized religious mantra from an apathetic heart?
Dear Father, thank you for communicating with us through your Son, Jesus Christ. Empower us to listen with our ears and hear with our hearts. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be courageous today in hearing the Son,
