“He restores my soul” Psalm 23:3a (NAS)
The euphoria of spiritual highs usually muffles the sound of God’s voice. We might be enjoying a glorious “mountaintop” experience; and believe that we are spiritually close to God. We must not forget, however, that such emotionally charged experiences have specific spiritual purposes. Note Jane Eggleston’s words, “The mountain tops are glorious; But it’s in the valleys I grow.”
Of course, I am neither reducing the value of the “mountaintop” nor increasing the value of the “valley.” Such experiences are not mutually exclusive responses to our situation. The mature believer does not pray for one and shuns the other. As spiritual beings, we need both in equal doses and a balanced manner. Our shepherd knows that both are required to restore the soul.
So, whether you are on the mountain or in the valley, receive and accept God’s restoration. In both experiences, God wants us to focus on him. The emotional high or low is simply the vehicle that He allows to get our attention. It is God who restores the soul.
Dear Father, thank you for the spiritual highs and the personal valleys. Thank you for spiritual restoration. Forgive us our resistance against your restoration. Grant that we may surrender to all your work in our lives. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today in God’s refreshing restoration,
