“Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.”
Proverbs 8:32-36 (KJV)
From time to time, children need to hear parents say, “You better listen to me!” Parents have their children’s best interests at heart. In most cases, mom and dad will give their children the best advice, because they know them best. The son or daughter who heeds parental advice will be happier and wiser in the long run.
The problem for most of us is that we want to do our own thing. We let our own knowledge and desires and opinions form our action. We are not sitting at the “gates” of wisdom waiting for a personal word for our situation. Yet, if this would be our spirit and attitude, we would find great favor with the Lord.
None of us can afford to refuse instruction. It is unwise to do so! We are happier and wiser when our radar is constantly pinging for the wisdom of the ages. Then when wisdom is shared with us and we receive it, there is a new surge of life into our souls. But when wisdom is shared and rejected that is a sign that we hate wisdom and death results. This is what God meant when He said to Adam, “Reject this wisdom and you will surely die” (Gen. 2:17).
Dear Father, thank you for the wisdom of your Word. Empower us with a love for it that we might hide it in our hearts and not sin against you. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today with God’s wisdom,
