God’s Rest

“Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.” Hebrews 4:7-11 (NIV)

I trust that your Labor Day activities with your friends and family were fun-filled and restful.

At the Praise & Worship Center, we enjoyed an afternoon filled with fun, food, and fellowship. Despite Hurricane Gustaf threats, we only had overcast cloudiness and no rain. A mild breeze kept us cool as we sat in our parking lot and enjoyed the music of a live band. The youth, and a few “youthful” seniors, played volleyball while others ran after the little ones. All in all, it was a most restful and mentally gratifying fellowship.

I hope that you have rested from your labors to enter into God’s rest. Jesus Christ is the rest that has been provided for humanity. There is no other in whom we may rest. Rest in him today! God labored so that you wouldn’t have to labor.

Dear Father, thank your for your Sabbath rest provided in Jesus. Empower everyone who reads these words with faith to trust his work on Calvary. Enable us to rest from our own works. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in God’s labor of love,
